Untitled Vessels

2024

Brass and copper

When I look at these vessels, I think that to the viewer, they appear to be empty. They are waiting for something, but maybe not quite ready. However, they also actually carry something hidden from others. They fight with all their force to keep it up. Inside. But they are close to tipping. To fall over the edge. They are crooked, like the legs no longer support. Clumsy. Heavy. Uncomfortable. They are fighting on their own, but still together.

I have worked with them as small beings. I have given them space where they can coexist with everything else around them. I have worked with them in the light of sadness or melancholy, but there is also a touch of humor, if you like. A duplicity and seriousness.

I want to explore objects in relation to the body and viewer, outside practical functionality. The vessels are small. Graspable. Fits two hands. This is where the interaction gets interesting. How do you pick them up? How do you hold them in your hands? Do you embrace them? Or do you see beyond the fragility and think they have a comical expression? Does it say something about you or them?
